Responsibility, Responsiveness, Respect.
The Board of Education should interact with our community with responsibility, responsiveness and respect.
Responsibility
Board members have a responsibility to represent all members of the community; to treat all public moneys as if they were his or her own; to understand what they are voting on; to know and meet the legal and policy guidelines of the district and the state.
Responsiveness
As representatives of the community, board members should also be responsive. If a community member asks a question, whether it be in person, by phone, or via email, the board member should answer it, promptly, thoroughly, clearly and honestly. If a community member has a concern, the board member should look into the situation and provide an answer that is based on information and research.
Respect
Both responsibility and responsiveness play directly into respect. The Board is elected by the community: board members should never forget that, and should respect the community as the people they are there to serve. It doesn’t matter if the community member has children in the district or not – all MEVSD residents must be seen and treated as equals.
It’s black and white: it’s that clear.
